The psychology of the panorama is overtly sated and covertly greedy. and thus caught up in the fragile complacency of disavowal.
— Allan Sekula, Fish Story

Shifting Surfaces is a series of cropped automated panoramas documenting a freighter seaward. Certain parts of each image are cropped to single out the areas where the automatic stitching algorithm failed to accurately blend the corresponding fragments. Instances of water, light and steel merging or being submerged attempt to challenge the comprehensiveness of the panorama and offer a reflection on the experience and perimeters of place.
